How to Spend 48 Amazing Hours in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is an incredible city to visit. From the unique architecture to the quaint canals running through the city, to coffee shops on every corner and bustling nightlife when the sun goes down.

Even if Amsterdam is just a quick stop on your European tour, you can easily experience the city in a short amount of time. I was in Amsterdam for only 48 hours, and this is how I made the most of it.

How to Spend 48 Amazing Hours in Amsterdam

The train I took into Amsterdam dropped me on the canal in the center of the city, with easy access to many main attractions. I highly recommend walking through the city following the canals or taking a boat and experiencing the city by water. Another great way to see the city is to hire a fiets (bike) and join the locals in their favorite source of transportation.

After getting lost in the city, I made my way to Waterloopleinmarket in search of a stroopwafel, and on the way, I couldn’t resist popping into Tony’s Chocolate Store to load up on some chocolate bars to take home. Be sure to indulge in all the free samples, and don’t leave without making your own custom chocolate bar – you can even design the wrapping!

If you’re a beer lover, go check out the Heineken Experience which is a museum full of… yes, you guessed it, beer! Be sure to try some Dutch beer as well. I would recommend trying Leffe blond beer – it’s delicious.

There are many museums worth checking out as well. Two I would recommend are Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House.

The best place to spend some time outdoors in the city is the sprawling Vondelpark, especially in spring and summer when the flowers are in full bloom. Make like a local and grab a few beers, bread and delicious dutch cheese and make a picnic out of it.

And once the sun goes down, be sure to check out Shelter (basement club that throws down) De Marktkantine (massive industrial venue), or Radio Radio (an intimate spot that also makes delicious pizza).
