Known for its intoxicatingly fun atmosphere and vibrant display of German music, beer, food, and fashion, Munich in October boasts vibrant beer halls full of boisterous revelers and a city full of history and sights to see. A massive bucket list item for all travelers, there’s no way you can visit Europe in the Fall without experiencing the infectious excitement of the home of the world’s biggest beer fest.

Get dressed up in your adorable traditional dress or striking lederhosen and head to the traditional beer halls and beer gardens with crowds of lively locals to claim a table for your friends. The Real German Beer Fest

These are the times of our lives – let’s make them matter

Friday

welcome to the beer halls!

Oktoberfest is a rite of passage for everyone studying abroad in Europe, and we’ve taken care of everything so you can have the Oktoberfest experience in Munich and enjoy Bavarian culture at its prime. Oktoberfest might be cancelled again this year, but the traditional and historical beer halls that Oktoberfest is based on – where much of German history has taken place – are most certainly open for beer drinking business. Throw on your lederhosen and dirndls, we’ve got a massive welcome party waiting for you at our favorite beer hall. You’ll be tossing back beer, singing songs, and dancing on tables through the night!

Saturday

prost!

On Saturday you’ll have a chance to refuel with a much-needed breakfast and hydrate before we hit the city. We’ll be running around Munich seeing the sights, whether participating in our annual treasure hunt, or on an included bike tour. Then we make our way to the English Gardens, for the city’s premier beer garden, where we start the party with our legendary Beer Olympics (hope your beer pong skills aren’t too rusty). Then it’s off to rest and recharge, before heading to the halls again. We’ve reserved a prime table for you and your beer drinking buddies so you can relax and soak in the atmosphere. You’ll spend the evening raising steins, tasting all sorts of hearty German food, and afterwards the more boisterous will join us for the afterparty (yeah, there’s a lot of partying – but it is Munich).

Sunday

one last hoorah!

Most travelers will be heading home on Sunday. If that’s your plan, refuel with delicious breakfast before you go. If you’re sticking around with us, check out the sights you missed while you were enjoying the beer halls, like Dachau concentration camp or Neuschwanstein Castle. We’ll also be covering bike rentals if you want to see the city at a faster pace. Next up, coffee shops and canals in Amsterdam!

The Abroad Connection makes the most of your semester by visiting the cities and destinations you’ve been dreaming about.
